Lebanese President Emile Lahoud met with his French counterpart Jacques Chirac on Monday during his three-day official visit to Paris.

Political analysts consider Lahoud's visit to France specially important, given that the Zionist entity has been escalating its attacks against the Palestinians and threatening Lebanon's territorial integrity along its borders.

The analysts believe that the U.S. blind support for the Zionist regime and Washington's opposition to any international move aimed at preventing Zionist atrocities against innocent Palestinians have prompted some Arab countries to lean toward France and Russia, the two countries opposed to the U.S. policies in the region.

Lahoud's visit to Paris may be considered as a turning point in Beirut-Paris relations. Paris is trying to enter the regional equation by expanding its relations with Syria and Lebanon, its Middle East allies.

During recent weeks, the United States has been increasing its pressure on the Lebanese government through its ambassador in Beirut to disarm anti-Zionist resistance movements in Southern Lebanon. Therefore, Lahoud's visit to France also seems to be aimed at countering the U.S. pressure.

The head of Palestinian Authority (PA), Yasser Arafat, during a recent visit to Paris, also called on Chirac to play a role in Middle East conflict.
