Interior Ministry Denies AFP Report
The Interior Ministry has denied an AFP report which said that Iran banned ceremonies to mark the anniversary.
He said that no student group had asked permission to stage a ceremony on July 9, and added that any anniversary rally would be illegal.
But if the student group asks for permission they can stage the rally.
On July 9, 1999, anti-riot police unlawfully entered Tehran University dormitory to break up student demonstrations which was held against closure of the Persian daily **** Salam ****.
The crackdown followed condemnation of top officials and legal action against police personnel involved in the crackdown was instituted.
Also, a member of Central Council of the Islamic Association of Tehran University Students Hamid Choubineh said on Tuesday that Tehran University dormitory will host a one-day seminar against violence on July 9.
He said that the seminar will be held in cooperation with the office to foster.
