Khatami's Special Envoy Due in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD -- A special envoy of Iranian President Seyed Mohammad Khatami is arriving here on Tuesday to discuss the Iraq crisis and regional situation with the Pakistani leadership.

Diplomatic sources told IRNA here on Saturday that during his two-day visit Ali Akbar Velayati will exchange views with Pakistani senior officials. Velayati was the Iranian foreign minister before the current FM Kamal Kharrazi.

Sources here said the special envoy will be carrying a message from President Khatami for President General Pervez Musharraf. However.

He is expected to meet President Musharraf on Wednesday besides calling on senior officials of the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to exchange views on the latest situation in the Middle East, with particular reference to Iraq.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan is currently one of the 10 non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. Islamabad assumed the seat on January 1, 2003.

The special envoy will also pay an official visit to Indonesia, where he will discuss the Iraq crisis with Indonesian government officials, the sources said.
