Taleqan Dam Becomes Operational
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony held to award prizes to the selected candidates of the sixth Shahid Rajaie Festival, he added that as of Thursday water would flow into the swerving tunnel of Taleqan dam.
The reservoir of Taleqan dam has the capacity to hold 420 million cubic meters of water and the construction of the dam aiming to supply irrigation and potable water has been underway for several years.
The progress in the construction of the project has reached a maximum of 45 percent.
Once Taleqan dam is commissioned, 270 million cubic meters of its water will be allocated to irrigation of Qazvin plain and Taleqan plain downstream.
About 150 million cubic meters of its water will also be used to supply fresh water to the capital city of Tehran and irrigation of the plains surrounding the city including Robat-Karim and Shahryar.
So long, 45 percent of the project has been accomplished. Around 85 percent of its required credits have been financed by foreign funds, while domestic resources will provide the remaining.
