TEHRAN, Nov. 23 (Mehr News Agency)- Foreign ministry announced on Sunday that a resolution drafted by Canada in the United Nations on human rights violations in Iran was politically motivated and a distortion of realities in Iran.

“The plan was orchestrated for local consumption and I should say that these moves are intrusive,” foreign ministry spokesman Hamidreza Asefi told a regular press briefing.

Such moves are not workable as it has been shown in the past, Asefi said, adding that those who voted for this resolution have in fact closed their eyes on changes taking place in Iran.

A UN committee on Friday approved a resolution drafted by Canada criticizing Iran for rights violations.

The measure passed the UN human rights committee with 73 votes for and 49 against, while 50 nations abstained.

Islamic countries mostly voted against the resolution as did Security Council powers Russia and China. The United States was a co-sponsor of the measure. MS/MS MNA End
