14 flicks from Iran animating Annecy

TEHRAN -- Fourteen Iranian films are competing in the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, which is currently underway in southeastern France.

“Zero Degree” (directed by Omid Khoshnazar), “The Footsteps of Water” (Alireza Darvish), “Colored Pencils” (Noruz Abbasi), “The Fish” (Mahmud Fakhrinejad), “Deserted Restaurant” (Ramak Amin-Kazemi), “Legend of Mardush” (Hossein Moradizadeh), “The Beautiful World of Arshia” and “Look and Make” (Hamidreza Mirbaqeri), “Hafez” (Vahid Nasirian), “No Days” (Mohammadreza Khanzad), “Kind Wind Hoo Hoo Khan” (Shahram Mirsadeqi), “The Lad” (Saeid Panji), “Crows” (Zohal Razavi), and “Kusha” (Mohammadreza Fakhraiizadeh) will be screened in different categories of the festival, which is regarded as the world’s most prestigious animated film gala.

A jury comprised of 26 cineastes and critics from around the world will judge 279 entries in the festival, which runs until June 10.

U.S. director Tim Burton will attend the festival as a special guest. This year’s festival plans to honor him with a “Cristal” for his work in animation. His “Corpse Bride” (2005) is scheduled to be shown during the filmfest.

Japanese character and image designer Yoshitaka Amano and Italian director and writer Osvaldo Cavandoli are the other special guests of this year’s Annecy festival.
