TABRIZ, East Azarbaijan Prov. -- Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said on Friday that a possible attack by the Zionist regime against Syria would be utter foolishness.

Speaking to the Mehr News Agency on the sidelines of President Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s visit to East Azarbaijan Province, Elham noted that “Israel would perform an act of mere foolishness if it carries out its threat of launching an attack against Syria.”

He noted that Israel’s recent attacks against the Gaza Strip and Lebanon are completely brutal and lack any military or political justification.

These attacks show Israel’s desperation and its inability to stand up to the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance, Elham observed.

“Israel’s recent crimes cast light on the true identity of this regime and its allies like the United States and show how important resistance can be for restoring a nation’s rights and defending national identity.

“The recent attacks delivered a promising message to the people in occupied Palestine and Lebanon, that their human, intellectual and religious power can overwhelm the brutal Zionist regime in spite of all its weapons.”

Elham noted that the recent events in the region mark a new development in the Middle East that herald a final victory for the resistance.

“The future belongs to Hezbollah,” he added in reference to the Lebanese resistance movement. Iran will use all its potential to give legal and diplomatic support to the people living in occupied regions, to offer them humanitarian assistance and to prevent them from enduring economic pressure, Elham said, adding, “This is the duty of every Muslim country.”
