Russian gas giant Gazprom, Bosnia to discuss gas supply contract, debt
The source said that Bosnia has a debt to Gazexport of U.S.D 104.8 million for supplies of Russian gas in the period from 1991 to 1995.
The Russian side has for a long period of time tried to regulate this issue.
The Bosnian side acknowledges its debt and should have submitted a schedule for repaying the debt back in 1995, immediately after supplies of Russian gas were restarted, after the end of the war in Bosnia.
"This schedule has not yet been submitted. Despite that, Gazprom for over 10 years has supplied gas to the country without disruption," the Gazexport source said. "Consequently, as we are meeting all our obligations, we want the Bosnian side to meet its obligations also. However, no concrete steps have been taken yet. The current contract to supply Russian gas expires on October 1, 2006. As a result, in negotiations the Bosnian side was officially informed that the question of extending the current contract will be considered in tandem with specific proposals to pay the debt."
