KAMPALA Some 13 people were killed when Ugandan troops fought with rebels in the western Kasese district during the weekend, security officials said on Monday. The dead included nine fighters of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group and two school girls caught in the cross fire during the 12-hour battle in Ibunga and Rubita villages on Saturday, a police officer told AFP by telephone from Kasese town.

The ADF rebels torched dormitories in Kichwamba Technical College, near the town of Fort Portal in the western Kabarole district early this month, killing more than 45 people, mostly students. (AFP)
