Quakes jolt parts of Iranian cities
According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the temblor was registered at 04:20 hours local time (0050 GMT).
The report further said that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in an area measuring 56.63 degrees in longitude and 36.83 degrees in latitude.
Two more quakes measuring 3.8 and 3.6 degrees on the Richter scale had earlier jolted the city Friday night.
The first temblor, measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, was registered at 21:57 hours local time (0627 GMT) while the second earthquake, with an intensity of 3.6, was registered at 20:59 hours local time (1729 GMT).
Friday's quakes had their epicenters recorded in an area measuring 56.44 and 56.37 degrees in longitude and 36.94 and 36.9 degrees in latitude respectively.
Jajram, with a population of 65,000, is located 170km southwest of the provincial capital Bojnurd.
There were no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by all three quakes.
Meanwhile, another earthquake measuring 3.5 degrees on Richter scale jolted Chalanchulan in this western Lorestan Province on Saturday evening.
According to the report of seismography center affiliated to Tehran University Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 21:45 local time(18:15 GMT) and its epicenter was at 33.61 altitude and 48.83 longitude.
There is no immediate report on possible damages.
Iran is frequently jolted by tremors of varying magnitudes because it sits on some of the world’s most seismic fault lines.
