TEHRAN -- Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf’s record as Tehran mayor indicates his skill in strategic management, something that has rarely been applied in the capital, Tehran MP Mohammad Khoshchehreh said here on Saturday.

Qalibaf was elected as Tehran mayor after Mahmud Ahmadinejad became president.

There is speculation about who will be selected as the capital’s future mayor by the Tehran City Council as it begins its third term, Khoshchehreh added. “When it comes to the evaluation of Tehran’s urban management, we need to avoid non-expert assessments and base our judgment on rational and strategic criteria.”

He added that Tehran’s problems are enormous and fundamental, and many problems have accumulated over time.

The MP from the conservative camp stated that there is currently great political pressure on the council and the Tehran Municipality, and the conflict between some administrative and national organizations and the current mayor is a major problem for the metropolis of Tehran.

He said that a rational and scientific assessment suggests that the city would benefit from the reelection of the current mayor.
