TEHRAN — In a meeting with the members of the reformist coordination council here on Sunday Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said “nobody can impose his views on people in an Islamic system.”
The meeting came as the reformist camp is preparing itself for winter parliamentary elections. Reformists now hold a minority in the parliament.
Holding free and fair elections is the only way to encourage people to turn out massively, Rafsanjani stated.
All candidates have a right to supervise the polling process and this would help ensure healthy elections, he pointed out.
“Every person and every political current should consider the country’s current situation in the world and the region ...and avoid anything that would disturb national unity,” the former president stated.
