TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Iran-Iraq parliamentary friendship group in Iranian Parliament (Majlis) on Saturday blasted desecration of the Islamic sanctities in Iraq.

Issuing a statement, the MPs expressed outrage at bombing the holy shrines of Imam Ali al-Naqi (AS) and Imam Hassan Askariya (AS) in Samarra, Iraq.

The MPs emphasized the need for exercising vigilance and unity among Muslims to foil conspiracies of the enemies of Islam who foment religious war and bloodshed among Muslim nations.

Referring to those who will benefit from such tensions among Muslims, the group said that the Zionist regime and the occupiers of Iraq inflame violence in the region.

"The parliamentary group calls on all followers of Islamic schools of thought to thwart the plots of foes," the statement read.

"The history of Shiism is full of martyrdom and sacrifice, and such crimes indicate the oppression to which the Muslims are exposed to, the statement added.

The parliamentary group expressed condolences to the Iraqi nation on the sacrilege of the two holy shrines of Imam Ali al-Naqi (AS) and Imam Hassan al-Askariya (AS).

The MPs also highlighted designation of the current Iranian year as the year of 'National Unity and Islamic Solidarity' by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and called for the Sunni and Shia Muslims to foster brotherhood and solidarity.
