Iran’s gas export to Turkey surpasses 20b cu. m.

TEHRAN (PIN) – Iran’s gas export to Turkey since the signing of the contract up to June 21, 2007, has surpassed 20 billion cubic meters.

Since the contract came into force (December 10, 2001) Iran has exported 20.74 billion cu. m. of natural gas to Turkey. The figure stood at 18.8 billion cu. m. until the end of the past Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2007), 1.7 billion cu. m. of which pertained to the first quarter of the current year. During the first quarter of the current year, gas export to Turkey increased by 100 million cu. m. compared to the corresponding period of the preceding year to hit 1.8 billion cu. m. During the current year, plans have been made to export 9 billion cu. m. gas to Turkey, of which 2.3 billion cu. m. pertains to the first quarter. According to statistics issued by the National Iranian Gas Company, 80 percent of the company’s goal has been achieved during the current year’s first quarter by exporting 1.84 billion cu. m. gas to Turkey. Gas imports from Turkmenistan reached over 42 billion cu. m. by June 21, 2007 during the first quarter of the current year. During the corresponding period of the preceding year, gas imports stood at 600 million cu. m., but the figure rose by threefold during the first quarter of the current year to hit 1.9 billion cu. m. Iran is planning to import 8 billion cu. m. of gas from Turkmenistan during the current Iranian year and, thus far, 2.5 billion cu. m. of gas has been imported
