TEHRAN – The managing director of the Iran Carpet Company (ICC) said here on Sunday that the world’s largest carpet will be unveiled in a mosque in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next week.

The 5,625.15-square-meter carpet will be spread at the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al Nahyan Mosque in Abu Dhabi, Jalaleddin Bassam added. It took weavers 2 years to make the 2.2-billion-knot carpet, he said. The carpet is not only noted for its size, but for its trapezoid shape containing one concave and one convex side. Iranian artist Ali Khaliqi designed the masterpiece in eight months. He said the contract was signed in late 2005.
