TEHRAN -- A Persian version of Michael Langford’s “Story of Photography” translated by Reza Nabavi was introduced during a ceremony at the House of Cinema on November 14.

Speaking at the event screenplay writer Farhad Towhidi announced that the House of Cinema will be holding a series of such ceremonies to introduce the latest publications on the theme of cinematic affairs and at the same time to assist in their selection of the Cinema Book of the Year.
He added, “In my view photography is at the core of cinema and ‘Story of Photography’ looks at the art of photography from this aspect.”
Veteran Iranian actor Reza Kianian expressed his appreciation over the holding of such ceremonies and talked about the magical quality of photography.
Kianian was next to speak, referring to Reza Nabavi as a most popular university professor possessing a forceful personality.
Several episodes of Reza Nabavi’s graduate thesis film project “Lighty-burdened Voyagers of Shores” were screened during the event.
Photographer and cinema critic Shahab ad-Din Adel made a speech in which he remarked that photography is the foundation of cinema and introduced Langford’s book as being one of the most important resources in Iran for students of photography, graphics and movies.
“When I began teaching photography some years ago there were no facilities for its instruction in Iran. I provided my students with some pamphlets but this proved insufficient,” Reza Nabavi mentioned at the end of the ceremony.
“Although most of the writers in the field of photography do not accept works written outside their own countries to be acceptable as reference books, I personally considered Langford to be an unbiased author,” he explained.
He mentioned that a translation of Langford’s “Advanced Photography” has already been published and another of Langford’s books named “Basic Photography” will also be available in the near future.
Michael Langford is a renowned photographer, author and teacher who was Photography Course Director at the Royal College of Art, London, UK
