TEHRAN -- Veteran Iranian filmmaker Masud Kimiaii says that he is interested in making an IRIB-sponsored biopic of the legend of Iranian wrestling, Gholamreza Takhti.
“Highlighting Takhti’s life and the various facets of his personality is a national task,” Kimiaii told the Mehr News Agency on Wednesday.“He is part of the history of Iran’s traditional sport, and I am totally prepared to undertake this project,” he added.
Alireza Naderi recently completed writing the screenplay of the film for IRIB, which is currently searching for a director to produce the film, and Kimiaii is one of the IRIB’s candidates.
“I must first study the script. It is essential to take the hidden angles of Takhti’s life into consideration in this project,” Kimiaii said.
Takhti (1930–1968) was most famous for his chivalrous behavior and sportsmanship.
The first film on the Iranian wrestler was “World Champion Takhti”, a feature-length project which was begun by Ali Hatami, an Iranian director whose attachment to Iranian history was his trademark.
Hatami died of blood cancer in 1996 before finishing the movie, which was finally completed by Behruz Afkhami
