TEHRAN -- Iranian filmmaker Ayyub Daneshvar has been assigned by the Azerbaijan Republic to direct a documentary on the ancient cities submerged by the Caspian Sea over the years.
Entitled “The Underwater City”, the project is being financed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Azerbaijan Republic and Tofik Mammadov, manager of an Azeri studio, will produce the documentary.“A team of experts have been working on the project over the past year and we have already filmed the sequences relating to Azerbaijan’s shore on Caspian Sea,” Daneshvar told the Persian service of ISNA on Sunday.
The film crew is scheduled to travel to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran in late November to shoot sequences on the shoreline of the Caspian Sea within these countries, he added
“In ‘The Underwater City’ we rediscover the civilizations buried under the Caspian Sea. The sea has risen and fallen many times over the past thousands of years and many cities have been submerged in the process,” Daneshvar explained.
The cameraman is from Turkey, which has provided the technical equipment.
