TEHRAN - The Islamic Iran Welfare Party chief has called the June presidential elections, which he plans to contest, very important.

“The tenth presidential election is highly sensitive and the candidates should show their capabilities to the public,” Hassanollah Verdinejad told ILNA news agency in an interview published Sunday.
Verdinejad said he will soon name some of his cabinet members and first vice president.
“I will soon announce my plans,” the Welfare Party secretary general added.
It will be useful for Iran to have a young president, like many other countries with young presidents and premiers.
However, it will depend on the people who they will vote for, he said.
Verdinejad also said he had held talks with certain potential presidential candidates but no concrete results had been produced.
Verdinejad added that his party has held coalition talks with certain groups which its details will be released later.
The party leader also said he thinks that Mohammad Khatami should not run in the presidential election because certain groups like the Servants of Construction Party and Islamic Iran Participation Party that support him are eying power.
He reiterated his position on providing the ground for foreign investment and a return of those Iranians to the country whose hands are not tainted with blood.
“If I emerge victorious in elections, I will provide the ground for the return of those Iranians living abroad whose hands are not tainted with blood and also promote foreign investment security in the country.”
