TEHRAN (FNA) - A senior Iranian commander said that the country’s Army has changed its doctrine both in theory and in equipment.

“We changed our (military) theory given the doctrine of transregional forces and we are trying to prepare our forces accordingly,” Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reporters on Saturday.
He underlined that the nature of the enemies threats has changed, noting, “Following the September 11 (2001) incidents, today we are witnessing modern threats by colonial states, which have brought the world under a special and security atmosphere.”
Saying that the change in Iran’s military doctrine also applied to the weapons and equipment used by the army, the commander added, “Today, layer-to-layer defense and defense on the surface are on our working agenda and we are producing the proper equipments and weapons (needed for this doctrine).”
Earlier on Friday, Commander of the Iranian Army Major General Ataollah Salehi told FNA that Iran plans to manufacture the largest destroyer and the most advanced submarines in the region, adding that the army is also due to start mass production of new series of fighter jets in the current year.
