CAIRO - Former Persepolis football coach Nelo Vingada has been named as coach of Egypt’s Al-Ahly on Friday.

“Vingada has been chosen as the new coach (because) he is familiar with local soccer here. He coached in Egypt before and had other stints in Arab countries”, Hady Khashaba, the Al-Ahly soccer team coordinator, told Ahly TV.
The financial details of the deal have not been revealed. The Portuguese joined Persepolis in February with a 17-month contract but left the Tehran-based club in late May following the team’s elimination from the Asian Champions League round of 16.
The Portuguese coach is a familiar face in the Middle East having been Saudi Arabia manager in 1996 and 1997.
In 2004, he took charge of El-Zamalek, Al-Ahly’s arch rival, before a brief stint with Egypt’s under-23 team.
He coached Jordan from 2007 to 2009
