TEHRAN – MP Seyyed Reza Akrami has warned officials not to be indifferent about the recent incidents in the country.
“If anyone in any position is indifferent toward the recent incidents, they should be aware that similar incidents may happen to them one day,” he told the Mehr News Agency on Wednesday.Akrami pointed out that the issue of post-election detentions should be carefully investigated. “Unfortunately, we have received some reports indicating that the detainees have been mistreated. As the Supreme Leader has said, (the issues) should be thoroughly examined.”
He also made a reference to the Kahrizak detention center and said, “There are aggressive people everywhere who cease any opportunity to vent their anger. (Officials) should seriously and firmly deal with them so that we do not see such incidents in the society.”
“Innocent” detainees should be released soon
MP Alireza Marandi has said that certain detainees arrested during the recent unrest are innocent and should be released as soon as possible.
The MP added, “According to the Supreme Leader, the damages incurred by those who have been hurt during the recent incidents should be compensated for because the duty of the Islamic government is to support the oppressed.”
“Attention should be even paid to those who are at fault but have received … illogical treatments excessively,” he told the MNA on Wednesday.
Manardi emphasized that the main elements behind the incidents should be punished.
“However, watching the limits set by Islam in dealing with these individuals is essential,” he observed.
Only FMO can confirm or refute corporal punishment
Farhad Tajari pointed out that Iran's Forensic Medicine Organization is the only source which can confirm or refute the claim that the detainees have been beaten.
“Currently, any remarks confirming or refuting (the claim) that the detainees have been beaten are not proper remarks and the (Majlis) committee regards the Forensic Medicine’s view as the criterion,” he told the MNA on Wednesday.
Commenting on the remarks of Tehran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor General Saeed Mortazavi in the Majlis, Tajari said, “It is inferred from Mr. Mortazavi’s remarks that most of detainees have been hurt during detention and skirmishes with the (police) forces.”
The MP also pointed out that the committee has asked the Forensic Medicine Organization to accurately determine whether the detainees have been hurt before getting arrested or during detention and whether the punishments had led to their death.
National Police Chief Esmaeil Ahmadi-Moqaddam earlier said that none of the detainees has been beaten in the prison.
Judiciary seriously deals with officers violating law in Kahrizak
Deputy Prosecutor General Naser Seraj emphasized that the Judiciary will seriously deal with the officers violating the rules in the Kahrizak detention center.
“If a violation on the part of an individual is proved in this detention center and the violation is confirmed by the Judiciary, he will be seriously dealt with,” he told the MNA on Wednesday.
The Kahrizak detention center, located in the south of Tehran, was closed on the order of the Supreme Leader because it lacked the minimum standards for keeping prisoners
