TEHRAN -- Iranian Reza Guran will be staging “A Man Is a Man” in the Netherlands using Dutch actors.

This is the first joint Iranian-Dutch production, Guran told the Persian service of ISNA, adding that director assistant Nureddin Heidari-Maher and stage and costume designer Siamak Ehsaii will be collaborating as well.
“The play is an adaptation of Bertolt Brecht ‘A Man Is a Man’ and features the events unfolding in Iraq during the occupation of the region by American forces. It manages to convey an anti-war message,” Guran said.
“A few months ago, Heidari-Maher and I were in the country for 50 days and selected the actors. The six-member troupe will be staging the play in the cities of Gronigen, Utrecht, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam.
Guran also stated that he would like to stage the play in Iran but the Dutch producers must decide on the program. “We also proposed the Center for Dramatic Arts in Iran to negotiate with the producers. There were also other suggestions for Lebanon and South Africa but nothing is determined yet.”
The play will go into rehearsal for six weeks and afterwards, the performances will begin, Guran said adding, “I will return to Iran after the first few performances.”
Guran had previously staged Federico García Lorca’s “Yerma” at the 26th Fajr International Theater Festival in Tehran.
