TEHRAN - Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani met with the Swiss ambassador to Tehran here on Tuesday.

At the meeting, Larijani highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy.
“The Iranian Majlis welcomes parliamentary diplomacy and considers it effective in strengthening political, economic, and cultural ties,” he stated.
He said Iran-Switzerland relations are within a well-defined framework and based on mutual respect, adding that there is still room for the expansion of bilateral ties.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani censured some Western countries’ sacrilegious actions against Islam.
Certain disrespectful acts toward Islam carried out in the West will only incite resentment and animosity toward the West among Muslims, he noted.
Swiss Ambassador Livia Leu Agosti stated that the Swiss government greatly respects freedom of religion and condemns all provocations and anti-Islamic actions.
She said all differences and disputes among members of the international community, and particularly the issue of Iran’s nuclear program, should only be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue.
The Iranian Majlis speaker also extended an invitation to the speaker of Switzerland’s House of Representatives, Pascale Bruderer, to visit Tehran.
In addition, Bruderer and Inter-Parliamentary Union President Theo-Ben Gurirab have invited Larijani to attend the 3rd World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, which is scheduled to be held in the Assembly Hall of the United Nations in Geneva from July 19 to 21
