TEHRAN – Top legislator Alaeddin Boroujerdi has said that the Iranian parliament has requested the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) to call extraordinary meetings on the sweeping regional developments which are changing the political landscapes of the Middle East and North Africa.

The Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman said Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has recently sent two letters to the secretariats of the APA and IPU requesting them to hold extraordinary meetings to discuss political developments and popular uprisings in the regional countries.
“The secretariats of these organizations are responsible for arranging these meetings, but the Majlis is also seriously pursuing the matter,” Boroujerdi said.
The MP added that it takes time to persuade APA and IPU to call extraordinary meetings, so it is a remote possibility that the meetings would be held in the near future.
