Schalke will do everything in their power to retain star goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and deter him from moving to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, with the offer of a new contract, but it is unlikely to be the €21 million over three years reports from Germany suggested.
Neuer is thought to currently earn around €2m per season, but the Gelschenkirchen club are to increase his salary to keep him.The media in Germany have suggested the 25-year-old has all but signed for Bayern, but this year's Champions League semi-finalists are eager to keep their prize asset.
Schalke's supervisory board chief Clemens Tonnies told Bild: ""Manuel Neuer is the face of Schalke. We will do everything we can to keep him.""
However, Schalke director of sport Horst Heldt denied Neuer would be offered a mega pay deal worth €7 m per annum, but said the club were hopeful of keeping him on board.
