TEHRAN – Assembly of Experts Chairman Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi has said that the Guardian Council should exercise its “approbative supervision” on elections.

Ayatollah Yazdi, addressing the Assembly of Experts meeting on Tuesday, touched upon the elections of the Parliament and the Assembly of Experts and the Guardian Council’s role in qualifying the candidates.

The Guardian Council will ensure the authenticity of the elections, and definitely the Council should exercise its “inherent” function, Yazdi asserted.

The senior cleric also asserted that the country's recent nuclear agreement would not change the Islamic Republic's policy vis-a-vis the U.S.

“Iran considers America as its top enemy,"" he stated.

He also reiterated his previous position that the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Plan of Action in English and BARJAM in Farsi, should be reviewed by the Majlis.
