TEHRAN -- The Association of Iranian Writers for Children and Young Adults (AIWCYA) and Turkey’s Writers Association for Literature of Children and Youth plan to launch international awards for writers in children’s literature.

The proposal to establish the awards was put forward during a meeting between the officials of the associations about six month ago, AIWCYA Committee for Culture and International Relations announced in a press release on Wednesday.

The associations are scheduled to select partners preferably from Islamic countries and the Middle East, and then from other countries, the committee said and added that it doesn’t mean that they would disregard nations in Africa, Europe, or other continents.

The officials of the associations met in Istanbul on October 24 to sign an agreement for the establishment of the literary awards.

Ways to attract participation by other associations active in children’s literature Islamic countries, the Middle East and Europe were also discussed in the agreement.

The committee expressed its hope that the first edition of the literary awards would be held in summer 2016.
