Envoy: Iran paying huge price in drug fight

August 27, 2018

TEHRAN – Kazem Gharib Abadi, Iran’s representative to the Vienna-based international organizations, says Iran has been paying a huge price for the fight against drug trafficking, the main part of which is to prevent the transit of narcotics to other countries.

Gharib Abadi made the remarks in a meeting with the Chairperson of the UN’s Commission on Narcotic Drugs Ambassador Alicia Buenrostro Massieu of Mexico, Mehr reported on Sunday.

Pointing to Iran’s proximity to Afghanistan, which produces nearly 90 percent of the opium in the world, the envoy called for serious attention to Iran and other countries which are in the frontline of the war against narcotics.
