TEHRAN-The cinematheque of the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran will show the 2021 Western psychological drama film “The Power of the Dog” written and directed by Jane Campion on Monday.

After the screening of the film at 5 p.m., a review session will be held with the presence of veteran movie critic Javad Tousi, Honaronline reported.

It will be the 561st program of the IAF cinematheque, which is dedicated to the screening of the famous films from Iran and the world.

“The Power of the Dog” is based on Thomas Savage's 1967 novel of the same title. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Set in Montana and shot mostly within rural Otago, the film is an international co-production among New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

The story revolves around the charismatic rancher Phil Burbank who inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.

The movie had its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, where Campion won the Silver Lion for Best Direction. Upon its international release, it received universal acclaim from critics, who praised Campion's direction and screenplay, cinematography, score, and performances of the four leads.

It was highly regarded as one of the best films of 2021 by multiple top-ten lists and has received many accolades, including a leading 12 nominations at the 94th Academy Awards, among them Best Picture, Best Actor for Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actor for both Plemons and Smit-McPhee, and Best Supporting Actress for Dunst. Campion won for Best Director. It also received seven nominations at the 79th Golden Globe Awards, winning Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture for Smit-McPhee, Best Director for Campion.

The Iranian Artists Forum is situated at Artists Park on North Mousavi Street, Taleqani Street.
