TEHRAN – 84 people were killed and 284 others were injured in two explosions taking place in the southeastern Iranian city of Kerman, as the country marks the 4th martyrdom anniversary of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.

The blasts were heard in quick succession near the general’s tomb. Shortly after the explosive incidents, rescue teams were dispatched to the scene to help the injured.

There are still no details on why the explosions took place.

Thousands of people have thronged to Kerman to visit the tomb of General Soleimani who was assassinated during a U.S. drone attack on Baghdad in early 2020.
