Kerman terror attacks draw global condemnation

TEHRAN- World leaders and figures expressed sympathy over the recent deadly attack in the city of Kerman.

Leaders from Russia, Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and other nations across the world have all condemned the tragic event.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Security Council said, “The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the cowardly terrorist attack in the city of Kerman, the Islamic Republic of Iran on January 3.”

The UN body continued, “The members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.”

It also offered condolences to the families of the victims and the government of Iran.

The Security Council encouraged all governments to work constructively with the government of Iran to prosecute the perpetrators of the terrorist act.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement on Wednesday strongly condemning the terrorist attack in Kerman.

“The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack today on a memorial ceremony in Kerman city in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Secretary-General calls for those responsible to be held accountable,” deputy spokesperson Florencia Soto Nino said. 

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi saying he is “shocked to learn about serious terror attacks” in southeastern city of Kerman.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Kerman, expressing "deepest condolences" to the victims and their families.

Syrian President sent separate messages to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and President Raisi on Thursday, extending his condolences over the horrendous incident. 

Pakistani President Arif Alvi expressed condolences to the Iranian government and people over the Kerman terrorist attack and condemned the barbaric act.  

In a statement, he said that the Pakistani government and nation express solidarity with the Iranian people in this hour of grief. 

He stated that Pakistan's sympathies are with the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the attacks.

The speakers of the parliaments of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman expressed their condolences to the Iranian people, condemning the terrorist attack.

The spokesman for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, expressed solidarity with the Iranian people following the terrorist attack.

In a statement, the Swiss government strongly condemned the "deplorable acts" that resulted in the loss of innocent lives and significant injuries. The statement emphasized that Switzerland stands in solidarity with Iran in its fight against terrorism and violence.

Similarly, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issued a statement condemning the "horrendous bombing" in Kerman.

The FCDO spokesperson expressed the UK's "thoughts and condolences to the families of those killed and injured."

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed his deepest sympathies for the lives lost in the city of Kerman's terrorist incident.
