TEHRAN - The leader of the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah warns that Iran will inevitably retaliate for Monday’s strike on its consulate in Damascus, which is widely blamed on Israel.

“Be certain that Iran’s response to the targeting of its Damascus consulate is inevitable,” Hassan Nasrallah said in a televised speech marking Al-Quds Day, Al Jazeera reported.

Nasrallah added that the strike marked a “turning point” since October 7, the day Hamas launched an attack on the Palestinian lands occupied by Israel in 1948.

Iran has said it will take revenge for the attack, which killed seven members of its Islamic Revolution Guard Corps, including the senior commander of the Quds Force, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

Iran held funeral procession for the brigadier general, his deputy Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi and five of their companions in International Quds Day in Tehran on Friday.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei prayed on their coffins in Tehran on Thursday afternoon.

General Zahedi and his deputy were serving as military advisors in Syria.
