TEHRAN Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council (EC) Hojjatoleslam Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in Mashhad on Thursday stressed the importance of national unity and solidarity between Iran's political groups as indispensable for safeguarding the Islamic system.
Rafsanjani who was addressing a gathering of religious personalities of the north Iranian Province of Khorasan said the government had successfully brought the masses onto the political scene and involved them in reconstructing their country after the eight-year war which, he said, was a great accomplishment.
He said the enemies of the revolution were trying to ruin the political system in Iran by dividing religious personalities and by divesting Iran's theological schools of their political orientation.
Rafsanjani warned of planned propaganda by the enemies of the country to stigmatize the system, and proposed that the country's political groups put their differences aside and tread the path of unity.
