KUALA LUMPUR -- More than 150 delegates from 50 Islamic countries, including Iran, will attend the First Conference on Pilgrim Management to be held here from September 30 to October 2, the Malaysian Hajj Foundation (Tabung Hajji) general manager for corporate communication, Shahruddin Abu Bakar, told IRNA here.
He said Iran will send a three-member delegation to the meeting.
Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad is scheduled to launch the conference which will be closed by his deputy, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Shahrudin said Malaysia has been given the honor by the Saudi Arabian government to hold the first Hajj seminar outside the Arab world.
As an example, he said the Philippines, a non-Muslim country, will be invited for the seminar as the country sends its Muslim citizens every year to perform the Hajj.
Shahruddin said this is the first conference to touch on Hajj guidance as one of the important parts in performing the Hajj.
He said Tabung Hajji is the responsible government agency on Hajj management in Malaysia and entrusted to handle the conference on behalf of the government.
The three-day seminar aims to share Malaysian and other countries' experience on Hajj guidance and to provide opportunity to the Saudi government to convey messages on Hajj management to all participating countries.
