TEHRAN Those Islamic governments which have relations with the Zionist regime should cut their relations with that regime as the first step to support the Palestinians, Dr. Mousa Abu Marzook, a member of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas said here on Thursday.
Talking to the TEHRAN TIMES, Dr. Mousa Abu Marzook who is visiting Iran as part of a delegation headed by Khaled Mashal, added that despite the compromise between the heads of some Islamic states and the Zionist regime, the Palestinians will continue their struggle against the Zionists. Touching on the Intifada, or uprising of the Palestinian people, he described the Intifada as a hope for unification of Palestinians against the Zionist regime.
As no military facilities are available for the Intifada, it hasn't been enabled to fight against the Israeli troops which are armed to the teeth, he said. "We hope the Intifada will succeed in getting Palestine free from occupation", he stated. Expressing his gratitude for Iran's psychological assistance to the Palestinian people, Abu Marzook praised President Khatami's recent remarks in support of the oppressed people of Palestine and in condemning the Zionists' massacre of innocent Palestinian people.
He further referred to the significant role of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and said, "We expect the OIC to take political steps to prevent the Zionists' crimes against the Palestinians." He added that, unfortunately, most of the Islamic states have taken a weak stance on recent bloody events in Palestine. Asked about the attitude of the Western media toward the recent events in Palestine, Abu Marzook described their coverage of these events as prejudiced. The Western media treat the merciless killing of unarmed people while over 60 innocent people have been so far killed, half of whom women, children and even infants, he concluded.
