TEHRAN Afghan Ambassador to Iran Mohammad Kheirkhah said on Sunday that Taleban's claim that it has seized 90 percent of Afghan territory is unfounded.
He told reporters that Afghan troops loyal to President Burhanuddin Rabbani have captured five governorates in Kunduz and Takhar Provinces and the supply route of commander of the Allied Forces Ahmad Shah Masoud has been taken back from the Taleban.
He said the Allied Forces has launched an operation since Saturday noon and fighting is continuing around Taloqan and Hazar Bagh adding that 60 Taleban fighters have been captured by the Allied Forces.
He said the Allied Forces are on the offensive in northeastern Afghanistan near Afghan-Tajik border.
Kheirkhah said in the meantime that fighting is not the right solution to the Afghan problem.
He said the government of President Rabbani favors the setting up of a government with the participation of all Afghan ethnic groups.
