TEHRAN - As Iran grapples with unwarranted and illegal attacks from both Israel and the United States, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi underscored the vital coordination between Tehran and Moscow on critical regional and nuclear matters.

Araghchi's visit to Moscow on Monday, during which he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, was characterized as a "pivotal moment" for the region. He lauded the historic and deeply entrenched ties between Iran and Russia, noting the evolution of their cooperation into a strategic alliance.

The talks followed a brazen attack by American forces, who violated international law by striking three peaceful Iranian nuclear sites – Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow – just a day prior. Russia's UN envoy had already blasted this aggression during an emergency Security Council session on Sunday.

Araghchi's discussions with Putin also coincided with the latest phase of Operation True Promise III, a large-scale response from Iran’s armed forces unleashing advanced missiles deep into occupied territories. This comes after days of relentless Israeli-American aggression, beginning with the assassination of top Iranian commanders and scientists on June 13.

The Trump administration’s direct entry into the war on Sunday represented a dangerous escalation, with U.S. forces deliberately targeting internationally protected facilities.

Araghchi emphasized Iran’s continued close consultations with Russia, particularly on nuclear matters, where Moscow has proven a staunch ally. He acknowledged Russia’s crucial role in past negotiations and its steadfast support amid escalating tensions driven by "the reckless actions of the Israeli regime and the US."

Araghchi condemned the attacks as blatant violations of the UN Charter, asserting that Iran’s actions are purely defensive. He expressed gratitude to Russia for its unwavering commitment to international law and conveyed warm greetings from Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Putin himself denounced the US-Israeli strikes as "baseless and unjustified," welcoming Araghchi's visit as a chance to jointly address the crisis.

"We are glad you are here in Moscow," Putin stated, emphasizing the opportunity to "jointly assess the situation and explore solutions."

The Russian leader reaffirmed his country's firm stance, referencing earlier condemnations by the Foreign Ministry and at the UN. He underscored the enduring and strategic nature of Russia-Iran relations, rooted in mutual trust.

Putin pledged Moscow’s commitment to supporting the Iranian people and pursuing a peaceful resolution to the conflict, also requesting Araghchi to extend his regards to Ayatollah Khamenei and President Pezeshkian.
