NEW DELHI Officials from both India and Iran who are participating in the second Indo-Iranian meet on oil and gas inaugurated here Wednesday, are assessing the progress made so far to carry liquefied gas from Iran to India.
The Iranian delegation in this two-day meet is headed by Mohammad-Hossein Adeli, deputy foreign minister for economic affairs, while the Indian delegation is led by K.V. Rajan, secretary of East in the Ministry of External Affairs.
The second India-Iran meet is a continuation of the first meet of Indo-Iranian Committee on Oil and Gas held in Tehran in August this year.
The meet continued till Thursday.
In this meet which is going on in the south block, the officials from two sides are viewing the various possible ways to carry gas from Iran to India through pipeline. They are exchanging views on the advantages and disadvantages of the project as well.
Experts predict that India would become the largest growing energy consumer in the days to come and its gas consumption will reach up to 27 million cubic meters per day by the year 2010.
The oil import from Iran to India in 1999 is estimated to be $250 million while imports of non-oil products from that country touched the mark of $227 million.
In the current year India's export to Iran may reach $157 million, while its import could worth $481 million.
