ILAM The judicial section of Iran's Armed Forces has set up a new office here to deal with the rampant social vices in the country, an official said here Saturday.
Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Niazi, head of the judicial section of the armed forces warned: "The enemy is trying to infiltrate the country by expanding the acceptance of social vices.
He added: "We have to deal with the social vices which are posing a threat to society and to families." In a related development, Interior Minister Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari warned Sunday of the increasing crime rate in Iran, particularly drug trafficking, and called for a solution to it.
He said that 90,000 of a total 150,000 prisoners in Iran are convicts of drug-related offenses. Lari added that last year alone, over 3,000 were arrested for such offenses.
The minister also deplored a 20-percent rise in the divorce rate in the country, and also took a swipe at relevant officials for not addressing the various problems afflicting the people.
Earlier in July, Head of the Culture and Arts Organization of Tehran Municipality, Hojjatoleslam Mohammad-Ali Zam, warned that social problems, moral lapses and economic pressure had made the nation defensively weaker in its encounter with Western cultural invasion.
