TEHRAN The Antiterrorism Court of Rawalpindi issued an arrest warrant for the former chief minister of Punjab State Zulfaqar Ali Kahouseh charging him with the assassination of Iranian cadets. Five Iranian cadets, hosted by the Pakistani Defense Ministry, along with their Pakistani driver were martyred in Rawalpindi in September 1997 and Kahouseh, who was then chief minister, announced the arrest of the culprits behind the assassination. The Islamabad-based Urdu daily Khabarin on Sunday quoted the judge of the Antiterrorism Court of Rawalpindi as saying that although the ex-minister had been summoned several times by the court, he had refused to attend. According to the daily, the judge therefore ordered police to arrest Kahouseh and bring him to the court. The court will hold a session on the martyrdom of the Iranian students on Wednesday. Pakistan's Supreme Court on September 18 accepted the appeal to review the charges against Muhammad Assef, one of the suspects in the case, and sent the case to the Antiterrorism Court for further investigation. Assef had been sentenced to death by Pakistani courts, including the Supreme Court of Lahore. Pakistan's Supreme Court in October acquitted eight suspects, sentenced to death, for the assassination of Mohammad-Ali Rahimi, the head of Iran's Cultural House in Multan . In less than ten years, 11 Iranian nationals have been martyred by terrorist acts in Pakistan and none of the culprits have been punished yet.
