Official: Dialogue Among Civilizations a Harbinger of World Peace

BEIJING Head of the Communications and International Relations Department of the National Tourism Organization of China, Zheng Bao Li, says the idea of having civilizations come together in dialogue could usher in peace for the entire world.

Speaking to IRNA here, Zheng recalled the designation of 2001 as the "Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations," and said that if all countries in the world join in the cultural endeavor the achievement of peace for the world would be greatly aided.

He said the idea of dialogue among civilizations has the support of all countries, nations and international agencies in the world and all can be expected to take an active part in it.

Zheng further remarked that dialogue will further consolidate relations and will subsequently halt war and bloodshed in the world.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Chinese officials pointed to Iran and China as two countries with ancient civilizations which have had extensive relations in the past through the Silk Road.

He said many Persian terms have entered into the Chinese literature through dialogue and cultural exchanges and have largely contributed to the further promotion of bilateral ties.

He also pointed to the holding of the "Civilization Cup" which will be held in Tehran's Azadi Stadium from January 16-18. National soccer teams from China, Italy, Egypt and Iran are to participate and the event is foreseen as a probable effective measure for introducing the great civilizations of the said countries to the people of the world.
