Iran Reviews Transfer of Water to Kuwait

TEHRAN -- Minister of Energy Habibollah Bitaraf said here Monday that a proposal has been put forth by a consortium of Iranian, Kuwaiti and a foreign companies to transfer water from Iran to Kuwait.

He added that the decision to go ahead with the project will be based on the national interest and within the framework of good neighborly relations.

He said there has not been a tender offered in this regard, adding, the Energy Ministry's view is that the amount of excess water left after meeting the domestic needs, should be exported.

Bitaraf added that the ministry is reviewing the consortium's proposal and will announces its decision when the legal steps have been completed.
