Djindjic Has Talks With Schroeder

BERLIN Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic was having talks with German leaders in Berlin Friday focused on the security situation along Kosovo's borders and aid for his country.

Djindjic was meeting Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer and Development Aid Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul.

Officials said talks would concentrate on the recent upsurge of fighting between Albanian rebels and Macedonian forces and on violence along the Serbian border with Kosovo.

The NATO alliance Thursday agreed to allow Yugoslav forces to enter a military buffer zone on Kosovo's border in southern Serbia to prevent Albanian rebels using the zone as a haven. The demilitarized zone was created after the 1999 NATO campaign to drive Yugoslav troops out of Kosovo.

In addition to rebuilding aid for Serbia the status of former Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic is expected to be raised by German leaders. Germany and other Western states are demanding that Milosevic be handed over to the war crimes tribunal at The Hague.

On Saturday Djindjic will have talks in Duesseldorf with German industrialists aimed at winning investment for Serbia. He will also meet with the head of the Balkan stability pact, Bodo Hombach.
