18 Killed in Algeria's Insurgency

ALGIERS Eighteen people, including 16 armed militants, have been killed in the past two days in Algeria's guerrilla war, press reports said Wednesday. Security forces trying to wipe out militants fighting the government killed 16 of them in an ongoing operation in the Djelfa region, 270 kilometers (about 170 miles) south of Algiers, on Tuesday, AFP quoted ***El Khabar*** daily as saying. Two people were murdered on Monday by a armed group at Badji, near Medea, 70 kilometers (45 miles) south of the capital, the daily *** L'Authentique *** reported.
