Taiwan Protests Against Japan History Textbook

TAIPEI Taiwan said on Saturday it has lodged a solemn representation to Tokyo over a controversial history textbook that critics say glosses over Japan's wartime aggression, Reuters said. Taiwan, a Japanese colony for more than five decades until 1945, said the "inappropriate content" in the new high school textbook that will go into use from April 2002 should be revised. "It will not only give a wrong account of history to Japan's next generation, but also seriously affect the friendly ties between the people of the two countries," Taiwan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
