Iran Stands 5th in World Physics Olympiad

TEHRAN The Iranian physics students' Olympiad team won 5th place in the the World Physics Olympiad, the Youth Scholars Club announced on Thursday.

The Public Relations Department of the club reported that the five members of the team won one gold, three silvers and one bronze medals.

China, Russia, the U.S. and India stood first to fourth, respectively, in the top 32 countries in the Olympiad. 70 states participated in the contest that was held in Turkey.

Iran's gold medal was won by Ali Farahanchi from Tehran's Genius Students Center. The silver medals won by Iman Aganj from Mashhad, Hamed Alikhani from Shahr-e Ray (Tehran Province) and Seyed Payman Shariatpanahi from Tehran. The bronze medal won by Ali Vakili, also from Tehran.

The Iranian physics Olympiad team last year stood fourth.
