PARK CITY, Utah Germany kept an iron grip on the men's bobsleigh with gold in both the two- and four-man events, while the United States raced to victory in the women's inaugural competition at the Salt Lake games.

Olympic debutant Andre Lange steered his Germany II four-man sled to Gold on Saturday to give his country their third straight win in the discipline at the Winter Games.

Lange's victory denied the Americans their first gold medal in the four-man since the St. Moritz games in 1948, with Todd Hays's U.S. I sled instead settling for silver and U.S. II ending a surprise third.

Lange said it was irrelevant that he had beaten the Americans on home soil, Reuters reported.

"That's secondary -- it doesn't matter whether it's here or in four years' time in Torino," the German said in reference to the next Winter Games in Italy.
