TEHRAN Asian Handball Confederation (AHC) selected Iran's Handball Federation (IHF) as Asian federation of the year 2001.

According to IHF, Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahd as-Sabah, chairman of Asian Olympic Council and president of AHC sending a fax to the Iranian federation has expressed his congratulations to the sports and handball officials of the country on the occasion.

In addition to domestic competitions, IHC held two Asian men's and clubs handball tournaments in 2001.

Iranian handball team also took part in the overseas contests in Kuwait, Ukraine, Japan and Yugoslavia, said IRNA.
