Tajik FM Calls For Broader Economic Ties With Iran

DUSHANBE -- Tajikistan's Foreign Minister, Talbak Nazarov, conferring with the head of Iran-Tajikistan's inter-parliamentary friendship group, Ahmad Bourqani Farahani stressed broadening mutual economic cooperation.

Speaking to IRNA at the conclusion of the meeting, Nazarov recalled the significance of cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan and said that there is currently no obstacle to broader mutual ties in various grounds.

Referring to the favorable facilities of both countries, he reiterated that Iran-Tajikistan's ties have now entered a new stage and that both countries should give special attention to expansion of their economic and trade ties.

The Tajik foreign minister also pointed to the significance of the role played by the Islamic Republic of Iran in mutual cooperation.

Considering the cultural, historical, and religious commonalities between the two countries, he expressed hope that Iran-Tajikistan's ties will further keep its trend of broadening in future.

He pointed to the upcoming visit of president Seyed Mohammad Khatami to Tajikistan as a significant step to further expansion of ties and said that it is expected in Tajikistan that once the visit takes place and several documents are signed between the two countries their relations will enter a new phase.

Bourqani Farahani said that in the meeting the mutual ties were assessed and considering the downfall of Taleban in Afghanistan, the need for cooperation among the three Persian-speaking states of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan was underlined.

He recalled that the three states might serve as a gate for connecting the other Central Asian states with the entire world.

He also referred to the broadening of mutual cooperation in other fields such as industries, cattle breeding, establishment of joint plants and agricultural projects and expressed hope that implementation of joint projects will be realized soon.

Bourqani Farahani arrived Dushanbe at the head of an Iranian political delegation to attend the second Iran-Tajikistan's round table discussions on the broadening of mutual ties.
